Everyone has an interest or passion, and sometimes a fresh point of view can help you enhance your talents or interests in new and surprising ways. Even the smallest town usually has at least some clubs. Perhaps you are interested in public service, in which case the Rotary Club, Kiwanis, or the Lions Club might be a good fit. Maybe you enjoy chess and would like to play with others to sharpen your skills. You could even consider something you’ve never tried before: pottery, writing, wine tasting, or even dancing are all good ways to interact with others and try new things. If your area doesn’t have any clubs that interest you, why not start one of your own? Odds are good that if you have an interest, someone else in the area is likely to share it.

Go to a yoga class. If you tend to be a home practitioner, but find yourself feeling lonely as of late, then head to your local studio. You can zone out and get all the benefits of your yoga practice, but having people on mats next to you can be a comfort when you’re feeling overly isolated.

Go to a movie. Yes, I’m one of those weirdos that likes seeing movies alone (not that I don’t enjoy company). When I lived in New Mexico, my work schedule was often the exact opposite of my husband’s, so I’d pop into that teeny, tiny theater off the plaza and watch a film alone. I also frequented movies by myself when we lived in PA and I traveled with my husband for his job. Give it a shot, or if it’s not your style at all, watch a movie on Netflix.

Being happy is fundamental to living a fulfilling life, but what happens when you just can’t find happiness? We have all been there, you know… those moments when you just break down. There is so much being thrown at us on a daily basis; school, work, friends, family, love… sometimes it’s just too much. This feeling can and will take over, and at some point it will destroy you.

Fred Jung said it best, “Sometimes you’re flush and sometimes you’re bust, and when you’re up, it’s never as good as it seems, and when you’re down, you never think you’ll be up again, but life goes on.”

I will be the first one to admit, I’m out of my freaking mind. Even the slightest negative thought could bring me from 100 to zero in a matter of seconds. I get so caught up in my own thoughts about things, I am not able to see the bigger picture and I get brought into this negative world of things that are wrong with me. I constantly think about what I need to change, or why things happen and frequently ask myself, “What was I thinking?”
