| Stew BiffAlthough many believe the Concorde was the fastest plane, the quickest recorded speed of a jet propelled aircraft was The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird at 2,193 mph.
This military plane has held the title since 1976, and was built by American aerospace company Lockheed under a 'black project' - a highly classified military defence project unacknowledged by the government until its declassification.
It flew at 80,000 ft meaning crews had to use special oxygen masks and protective pressurised suits. |
