Not only are house flies a nuisance, but they can also transport disease-causing organisms. Excessive fly populations nearby human habitations can be a public health problem. Seen here is a housefly cleaning itself. It pulls out its proboscis and uses the saliva rubbed on its legs to cleanse itself, first the face, then the head, then each leg and finally the wings. Quite interesting to watch.
