Affirmation was the programming language of the brain. What did this mean?

Affirmation can be defined as a style of communication a style of communication that utilizes short, positive, present tense, unconditional, and empowering statements. It is the most effective way to communicate with your subconscious mind, program your brain for success; communicate with yourself and others, positively influence the health of both brain and body, and communicate with your Higher Power.

Since affirmation is so powerful, you would think that everyone would hone a positive mindset and an affirming communication style. Unfortunately, growing up most people heard seven to nine negative comments for each positive. With all that negative input many never learned the art of affirmation. Consequently, it’s no wonder that communication problems abound. Fortunately it’s never too late to hone one’s skill. It just takes knowledge, commitment, and practice.

Your thoughts create our own reality and your reality is reflected in physiological changes throughout the brain and body. The brain thinks in pictures and finds it relatively easy to deal with positives. That’s a one-step process. It finds it more difficult to deal with negatives (the reverse of an idea) because that involves a two-step process

Published in PLOS ONE, new research from Carnegie Mellon University provides the first evidence that self-affirmation can protect against the damaging effects of stress on problem-solving performance. Understanding that self-affirmation -- the process of identifying and focusing on one's most important values -- boosts stressed individuals' problem-solving abilities will help guide future research and the development of educational interventions.

'An emerging set of published studies suggest that a brief self-affirmation activity at the beginning of a school term can boost academic grade-point averages in underperforming kids at the end of the semester. This new work suggests a mechanism for these studies, showing self-affirmation effects on actual problem-solving performance under pressure,' said J. David Creswell, assistant professor of psychology in CMU's Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Milton model represents distortions to the Meta Model which serve to liberate the mind by trance induction.

The point of the Meta Model is to draw awareness out of generalization and into the specifics of communication in order to transfer understanding and eliminate distortion, deletion, and generalizaion. The Milton Model breaks the rules of the Meta Model in order to create new generalizations, deletions, and distortions.

Why would one want to do this? Isn’t the point of practice to see through these illusions?

Not all the time. On one level. seeing through illusion is the point of practice, however we can not see through all illusion and remain human and dynamic. The Milton Model offers us a programming language with which to customize the subjective experience of reality. By using it effectively, we can mould ourselves to be and act automatically in ways that overcome our limitations and automatically generate skills that would otherwise be impossible for us to learn.

The Milton Model is named after Milton Erickson who was one of the last centuries pioneers in the field of hypnotherapy.
