http://emsseo.com/2010/11/ems-quick-s... EMS responds to fires, smoke inhalations and other emergencies that may present patients with carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. This can be a tricky diagnosis unless you pull someone out of a building with CO alarm going off or a fire fighter treated during rehab.
CO poisoning can imitate many other illnesses and the paramedic must use good patient assessment, history taking and clinical judgement when considering this potential poisoning. CO Oximeters now used in the field are a great tool to use by all EMS providers.
Check out this Monday Minutes for a quick signs and symptoms of CO poisoning as well as EMS treatment and transport considerations. http://youtu.be/ZZTo-meCLJQ
