| Mahadevan M SNyaaya-Vaisheshika, Yoga-Saankhya, Mimaamsa and Vedaanta are the recognized schools of Hinduism. Within Vedaanta there are three major schools: Advaita Vedaanta of Shankaraacharya, Vishishta-advaita Vedaanta of Raamanujaacharya, Dvaita-Vedaanta of Madhvaachaarya. Within Mimaamsa, there are two schools of Prabhaakara and Kumaarila respectively. All schools of Hinduism accept the Vedas as the Ultimate Truth. Vedas and other holy texts are terse and hard to understand. So great sages and teachers of the past have interpreted the Vedas and other holy texts differently. Therefore there are many schools. While it is important to understand these schools to understand the different Hindu traditions, one can be a good Hindu without learning the details of these schools. |

According to the Samkhya school of Hinduism, life evolves from Prakriti (Nature) when it comes into contact with the soul (Purusha). There are two eternal principles in the universe, individual soul called purusha and Nature called Prakriti. The souls are many while Nature is one. The souls are eternal and absolute, but when they come into contact with Nature, Nature holds them in its bondage and makes them embodied soul. This video explains how Nature envelops the souls and undergoes transformation and evolution and how various tattvas are created.
